YUNGBLUD has shared a new Spotify playlist of “misfits”, the artists who have inspired his forthcoming second album Weird!.
As per Kerrang!, the playlist is 50-strong so that’s a lot of “misfits”. YUNGBLUD explained: “These songs represent the individuality of a generation. Why would you want to fit in when it’s so much more interesting to be different, to be yourself, to be a misfit.” That’s the Gen Z motto, right there.
It’s quite the varied collection. The artist’s good mates Bring Me The Horizon appear of course (‘Dear Diary’), as well as Machine Gun Kelly (‘My Ex’s Best Friend’ ft. blackbear).
It’s 2020 so the wonderful Billie Eilish legally had to be included, as she is for her latest hit ‘Therefore I Am’. Maggie Lindemann, KSI, and Fontaines D.C. are some of the more unexpected inclusions.
Honestly, we think YUNGBLUD should get everyone from the “misfits” playlist together. Have a big “misfits” house party when COVID-19 allows it. We’d pay to see Phoebe Bridgers, beabadoobee, and Grimes in the same. That would be some collaboration.
Weird! is the follow-up to 2018’s 21st Century Liability. It’s scheduled for release on Decmber 4th. Already the singer has shared ‘Cotton Candy’, ‘God Save, But Don’t Drown Me Out’, and ‘Strawberry Lipstick’ from it to whet the appetite.
“I needed to get this album to you because you fucking deserve it,” the musician said in a statement. “This has been the weirdest fucking year imaginable. And this is a conversation between us, and it needed to come imminently because fuck waiting until March next year. That’s not happening.”
The British star also announced this week that he’ll be making a welcome return to Australia next September for a series of highly-anticipated concerts. You can sign up for the presales if you’re so inclined here.
