English alt-pop prodigy Yungblud has never been one to shy away from standing up for what he believes in. During the musician’s recent show at The Forum in Melbourne, Yungblud incited a rallying cry against Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
For context, the musician was scheduled to play the Lorne instalment of Falls Festival over the New Year. However, the festival was cancelled on day 2 over extreme weather concerns and safety risks. The cancellation of the festival saw a bunch of musicians on the lineup scramble together to put on last-minute benefit shows for firefighting services.
Amongst these artists was pop monolith Halsey — who organised a 2,000 cap show at the Forum Theatre, and Yungblud, who pulled off a pulverising show at Melbourne’s Tote Hotel. The proceeds from both concerts went to the Country Fire Authority.
It was nothing short of heartwarming to see these musicians rally together to offer support during this bushfire crisis. However, it highlighted Scott Morrison’s glaring inaction in the face of this ongoing tragedy.
During Yungblud’s scheduled sideshow at The Forum, the musician vocalised his disgust towards the PM. Leading the crowd in a massive “fuck you chant” that he then posted to Twitter, tagging Scott Morrison. It was pure catharsis. You can check out footage from the performance below.
