After months of build-up, our very own Troye Sivan has dropped his new EP, In A Dream. The much-anticipated six-song EP includes previously released tracks ‘Take Yourself Home’ and ‘Easy’.
The release of In A Dream also comes hot off the heels of Sivan’s latest single, ‘Rager teenager!‘, which debuted earlier this month.
The EP marks Sivan’s first collection of new music since the success of 2018’s Bloom. It seems August may just be the homegrown hitmaker’s lucky month, as last week marked the sixth anniversary of his first major-label EP, TRXYE.
Listeners were first given a taste of the EP back in May with the release of lead single ‘Take Yourself Home’, which trended #1 on Twitter worldwide upon premiering.
In a lucky turn of events, Sivan recorded the majority of the EP between Stockholm and Los Angeles prior to lockdown restrictions. Five of the EP’s six tracks were produced in collaboration with Oscar Görres, known for his work with The Weeknd and Tove Lo.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Sivan revealed that much of the album was inspired by the breakdown of a long-term relationship.
“Anyone who’s going through a major sort of life shift knows the way that it really is like a rollercoaster, and I think that’s why [the record] ended up feeling as chaotic as it does with all these different moments and sounds… it just felt like the only way to really do that experience justice,” he said.
After spending years living and working in L.A, Sivan also shared how “happy” he is to be back in Australia as a result of the pandemic.
“I am content and grateful that I am in Australia and that we are all safe and happy,” he said, “for me I am so lucky that lockdown just looks like a frustrating slowdown which sometimes I think I needed anyway.”
