With a history and discography extending back over 12 years, it’s hard to nail down what the most relatable Fall Out Boy lyrics are. We didn’t let that put us off. This is the finalised, and locked down list of the 10 most relatable Fall Out Boy lyrics of all time. Don’t @ us, no discussion or debate will be entered in to.

1. “I’ll stop wearing black when they make a darker colour” – Expensive Mistakes

We’re all emo at heart, and some of us will vaguely remember scrawling something similar to this on our high school pencil cases. This takes the top spot, despite there being no official released version of Expensive Mistakes out yet. Mostly because it’s very true, and very relatable (and very much the easiest lyric from the live video of the song to make out).

2. “I could scream forever” – Centuries

This one is a big-ass mood. I could scream forever. I might scream forever.

3. “I’m no good at math” – The Shipped Gold Standard

It’s true. It’s relatable. I AM no good at math. The beauty is in its’ simplicity.

4. “We’re the new face of failure” –  I’m Like A Lawyer With The Way I’m Always Trying To Get You Off (Me & You)

Ever walk out of an exam you were really confident about, and just know you totally failed? Fall Out Boy has a lyric for that. Relatable. Hashtag relatable content.

5. “Wherever I go, trouble seems to follow” – Save Rock and Roll

Me: “I hate drama”

Also me: Always in the centre of literally everyone’s drama.

Just saying- wherever I go, trouble does seem to follow. It’s mostly my fault.

6. “Oh hell yes, I’m a nervous wreck” – West Coast Smoker

Anyone else’s anxiety low-key ruining their life?

7. “I want to hate you half as much as I hate myself” – The Pros and Cons of Breathing

Self-loathing isn’t hip or cool, and you’re super great and we aren’t here to encourage any self-hatred. But still? Relatable.

8. “I’m back with the madness” – Champion

Look there’s debate on the lyric for this. I still maintain it’s ‘back with THE madness’, but the t-shirt I bought in Chicago disagrees and is telling me it’s ‘back with A madness’. Regardless, ever since Fall Out Boy dropped Young and Menace back in April, I have in fact been back with a/ the madness (and back on my old bullshit), so this gets an honourable mention for being relatable as heck.

9. “I don’t care what you think” – I Don’t Care

OK so honestly, this was voted in by other members of Team DBU. Frankly I don’t relate. There’s only two things in life that I care about, and those things are:

1) every single person on Earth, and

2) what they think about me.

But majority rules, and it made the cut.

10. “It’s not me, it’s you
Actually, it’s the taxidermy of you and me
Untie the balloons from around my neck and ground me
I’m just a racehorse on the track
Send me back to the glue factory
Always thought I’d float away
And never come back
But I’ve got enough miles on my card
To fly the boys home on my own
But you know me: I like being all alone
And keeping you all alone
And the charts are boring
And the kids are snoring
And my ego’s in a sling
You said you’re not listening and I said I’m wishing…
And I said… I said…” – 20 Dollar Nose Bleed

Totally fucking kidding, what does that even mean? Not relatable, but any excuse to listen to the masterpiece that is 20 Dollar Nose Bleed. The dulcet tones of Patrick Stump and Brendon Urie? The Pete Wentz emo poetry? Perfection.

Also reminder that Fall Out Boy is touring Australia and New Zealand next year. Get all the details on the tour HERE.
