Taylor Swift has revealed the first snippet of her new back catalogue re-recordings by dropping a sample of ‘Love Story’ in a Ryan Reynolds dating ad. Seriously.

We’re all pretty aware of the whole situation regarding Taylor Swift and the masters of her old records at this point. But for those who needs a quick refresher, this whole saga basically started when Scooter Braun barred the singer-songwriter from performing her back catalogue live because he owns the rights to the masters and after a lot of legal back and forth, Taylor’s solution to the issue was to just re-record everything. Oh and Kanye is involved in there somewhere because of course he is.

Which brings us to the present as Taylor Swift has finally given us a taster of what her re-recordings sound like by dropping a short sample of ‘Love Story’ online via an ad.

To be honest, the re-recording of ‘Love Story’ sounds more or less the same as the OG version. What’s far more interesting is the ad in which the song is used in.

You see this ad isn’t for herself or a political advert. Nope, it’s actually an ad from Ryan Reynolds for the Match.com dating app and it involves Satan falling in love with a human woman after matching on said dating app. Yeah.

Aside from the question of why Ryan Reynolds is plugging dating apps now, the minute-and-a-half-long ad is exactly what you expect from the man who plays Deadpool: irreverent, weird, oddly poignant, and features a literal dumpster fire.

Taylor took to Twitter to unveil the snippet, writing “Okay so while my new re-records are NOT done, my friend [Ryan Reynolds] asked me if he could use a snippet of one for a LOLsome commercial he wrote so…here’s a sneak peak of ‘Love Story’! Working hard to get the music to you soon!!”

Yes it’s exciting that Taylor Swift is getting to re-record her back catalogue for the present day (even if it’s looking like everything will sound exactly the same), but I’m suddenly more keen for her to collab more with Ryan Reynolds because the ad is exactly what I needed to get me going this morning.
