The votes are in, the ballots/streams have been counted for countless songs and artists, and in Australia’s musical election (otherwise known as Spotify’s Wrapped) the winner of the nation’s most streamed artist (and thus most popular by extension) in 2020 on Spotify goes to the late rapper Juice WRLD.
Spotify Wrapped analyses all of the data generated through their platform to determine the most streamed artists and songs for the year. They also offer an option for you to find out what your most-streamed music was for the year of doom that is 2020, and Spotify spat out quite a few interesting names when it comes to the most popular songs and artists this year.
In a move that we think has done Australia justice, Juice WRLD picked up a lot of traction this year and took out the most streams for an artist, following his untimely death last year. The 21-year old artist, whose final concerts were actually in Australia, passed away from an accidental overdose in December 2019.
In other Australian artist news, that Tones and I have taken out the top spot for Australia’s most streamed local song for the second year running. Please take a moment to digest that. Oh yeah, ‘Dance Monkey’ was also the most-streamed song by a female artist. In the world.
The winner of the most streamed Australian artist came as a surprise to nobody, with the ever-popular Hilltop Hoods claiming the title for another year. They were joined (in no particular order) by Flume, The Wiggles, and 5 Seconds of Summer.
On an international level, the most streamed song in the country was The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’. You can listen to the Top Artists of 2020 Australia below or check out the Australian rankings for Spotify Wrapped 2020 underneath.
