2019 is shaping up to be a big year for Sia, with the singer announcing that a new album and a musical are both on the way.

Ever since the Adelaide-born Sia burst onto the scene back in the ’90s, she’s been a popular figure on the music scene. However, after first making a name for herself in England, and a breakthrough on the US charts with ‘Chandelier’ a few years back, Sia has since become one of the biggest names on the global music scene.

However, even though we received a Christmas-themed album back in 2017, it’s close to three years since we last saw a regular studio album from the singer. Now, it seems that’s all about to change.

Taking to Twitter on Christmas day, Sia responded to a fan who asked when we might be seeing new music unleashed into the world.

“Next year I’m releasing an album and a feature length musical I wrote and directed,” Sia responded. “Lots of fun things to come!”

Of course, it’s not yet clear whether this new album that Sia is talking about will actually be a solo album, or if it will be the long-awaited record from her new supergroup, LSD.

Forming back in 2018, LSD is named after its three members, Labrinth, Sia, and Diplo. Having released a handful of singles already, the trio’s debut record was scheduled to be released back in November.

However, it’s since been pushed back to an unknown date, with speculation rising that 2019 might be when we finally hear it.

In regards to this musical though, Rolling Stone first noted back in August that Sia has been trying her hand at directing, teaming up with frequent collaborator Maddie Ziegler to create the film, Music.

Originally slated as a feature film, it’s since been turned into a musical, and reportedly features Ziegler as an autistic child, who is cared for by her drug-dealing sister, portrayed by Kate Hudson.

According to Rolling Stone, the film focuses on themes of “finding your voice and creating your own family”.

While it’s not clear when either of these projects will be arriving in 2019, we can look forward to the coming year with excitement, knowing that we’ll finally be hearing something new from Sia before too long.
