Selena Gomez has opened up about potentially retiring from her music career in a new interview with Vogue.
Gracing the cover of the magazine’s April 2021 edition, Gomez revealed that she still feels that people don’t take her seriously in spite of her success as an artist.
“It’s hard to keep doing music when people don’t necessarily take you seriously,” she said.
“I’ve had moments where I’ve been like, ‘What’s the point? Why do I keep doing this?’ ‘Lose You to Love Me’ I felt was the best song I’ve ever released, and for some people, it still wasn’t enough.”
Selena Gomez went on to add that she may consider retiring from music after “one last try.”
“I think there are a lot of people who enjoy my music, and for that I’m so thankful, for that I keep going, but I think the next time I do an album it’ll be different… I want to give it one last try before I maybe retire music.”
‘Lose You to Love Me’ served as the lead single from Gomez‘s 2020 album Rare, and was her first and thus far only No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Once I stopped, and accepted my vulnerability, and decided to share my story with people — that’s when I felt release,” Gomez said of the emotional ballad.
Despite any doubt Gomez may have about her career trajectory, she is set to release her Spanish-language EP Revelación this Friday, March 12th.
Meanwhile, Gomez is also currently juggling multiple film projects. Not only is she acting in the upcoming TV series Only Murders in the Building, but she is also set to go behind the camera by producing the horror-thriller film Dollhouse.
