Vince has a knack for making music that's simultaneously casual and cutthroat. No project of his tracks on that vibe more than this one. At first blush, FM! is a breezy summer listen, windows down, low humidity kind of shit. Tracks like Feels Like Summer, Run the Bands, and No Bleedin' bounce along with thick, rubbery beats while Vince skates over top with buttery flows and some vocal contributions from the likes of Ty Dolla $ign. But cut a little deeper and there's some real paranoid neighborhood corners on these tracks. The weird, watery production on Outside!, the submerged instrumentals and pitched bars on Don't Get Chipped veer towards the nightmarish, and by the time Tweakin' hits at the album's close, the whole thing's gotten a little harrowing.
FM! is some of Vince's best work and showcases some of his greatest attributes as a storyteller, collaborator, and rapper.
