Former One Direction member, Liam Payne has taken it upon himself to comment on Jesy Nelson’s departure from Little Mix.
Taking a short trip down memory, we’re reminded that there was always the parallels between One Direction and Little Mix – both being UK-based bands as well as both operating in the realms of pop music.
Bringing it back to the present, Nelson recently announced that she would be exiting Little Mix to focus on her mental health.
To provide her fans with more insight into her decision, Nelson took to Instagram to pay tribute to Little Mix and share the “pressure” she experienced which came as a result of being in the girl group.
She wrote, “The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.”
Following on from Nelson’s announcement, Payne has made a comment on the situation, which he feels he understands all too well – of course referring to Zayn Malik’s decision to leave One Direction back in 2015.
The comment, which he made in a throwaway kind of away came from Payne via a TikTok Live, where he said that Nelson has “Zayn’d out” of Little Mix.

As soon as he made the comment, it seems as though he realises that mental health is obviously no laughing matter, saying, “No, no. Let’s be serious about this. It’s always sad at this moment in time when bands get into that sort of thing. Having been there myself, I felt that Zayn left for pretty much the same reason in a weird way.”
To conclude Payne says that he wishes Jesy and the remaining Little Mix members all the best. “I wish Jesy all the best. I wish the girls all the best for carrying on as a three. It’s a tough time and I do feel for them because everyone is watching in that little fishbowl at the moment and no one really understands what’s going on or how it feels for some people.”
