Indie-pop dreamboats LANY are back, baby. The band have offered the first taste of their forthcoming third album Mama’s Boy with a brand new track ‘good guys’.

‘good guys’ marks the first new music we’ve heard from the heartthrobs since their stunning 2018 record, Malibu Nights.

“As soon as you say ‘I love spending time with you’ to someone, they figure something out and they’re not interested anymore,” says frontman Paul Kleinof explains of the tracks meaning.  “It’s like a challenge. You accomplish the task of getting someone to like you and they move on.”

The track is a testament to the band’s roots. After finishing the final leg of their Malibu Nights world tour, Paul spent time in a countryside studio in Nashville, where he spent two weeks decompressing with fellow bandmates Jake Goss and Les Priest as well and a gleaming roster of songwriting collaborators including Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay; Shane McAnally, who worked on our yeehaw queen Kacey Musgraves’ Grammy-winning record Golden Hour and many more.

The two weeks in Nashville allowed Paul to excavate the cognitive dissonance he was experiencing between the Los Angeles person he’d adopted during the band’s rise, and his heritage.

“Someone asked me where I was from and somewhere, out of my spirit, I just said ‘Man, I’m from Oklahoma!’ It was a weird sense of pride, to be from the middle of nowhere.”

‘good guys’ arrives with a magical music video, that feels like a visual love letter to the power of returning to one’s roots.

“There was only one person in the world I cared about hearing Malibu Nights,” says Paul. “Now, there’s not one person in the world I don’t want to hear Mama’s Boy.”
