On the fated night of January 26, the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards took place, and while there were some fans of the proceedings, a lot of people were irritated or disappointed with the choices made by the Academy yet again. One of the people who were pretty frustrated with the night was Hayley Williams.

Cage the Elephant, Tool, Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X all took home awards from the coveted music show. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see any of the rock awards because they weren’t televised. And Hayley Williams has something to say about it.

Our favourite new solo artist and lead singer of Paramore took to social media to compliment the incredible winnings of Billie Eilish, and then moved on to highlight how important it is to have rock music on television, and visible to the greater public.

The Grammy Awards this year were a pretty regular affair, with nothing out of the ordinary occurring. The usual buffet of celebrities were in attendance, including Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish (in an incredible Gucci getup), Post Malone and the Jonas Brothers. Unfortunately, rock acts such as Bones UK, The 1975, Tool, Bring Me the Horizon and Gary Clark Jr. were lost in the crowd due to the awards paying close to zero attention to rock acts.

Hayley Williams used her position in the genre to step up and say something. After complimenting Billie Eilish’s incredible performance, she turned to rock and how little it is represented in the Grammy Awards.

“not able to watch tonight but i had to search the internet for this performance cause I knew this bish was gonna serve talent and delicious, buttery vox. congrats @billieeilish & @finneas,” she wrote.

“also- heard Cage won Best Rock Album? CONGRATS @CageTheElephant!! lastly- can we get even just one Rock category televised next year, @RecordingAcad? Rock and Alternative music are vital(!) and relevant(!!!) and the youths need to see it on the TV. ok, i’ll shut up now,” she continued.

Hayley Williams is more than proud to stand up for her genre. She also has the support of a lot of music fans. Check out some reactions below.
