After scoring legions of fans with captivating singles like ‘GRRRLS’ and ‘Drown’, Australia’s very own AViVA is back with a new single, ‘BRN’. The dark pop track features a bouncy yet powerful hook, carried by fuzzy lead guitars that carry the song’s driving nature.
It combines Demi Lovato’s striking empowerment, new-Fall Out Boy’s alt-pop leanings and Halsey’s attitude, making for a ferociously catchy affair. Lyrically, the track follows encourages the listener to truly be themselves, without pandering to the unrealistic expectations of others.
AViVA shared what the song meant, saying “I’m sick of people being ‘burnt’ today for being themselves- for not fitting in the boxes everyone tells us to be in. This is my f*** you to anyone who dares to put me in a box. BRN, to me, is a song about standing with your back straight and daring anyone to defy you or question you because you’re untouchable.”
Like everything AViVA does, its strong message is accompanied by visuals that amplify meaning and conjure deep emotion. Check out the striking animation below:
To top off the release of the new single, AViVA has also revealed her upcoming young adult novel series called ‘SELF/LESS’, which she’s currently in the process of writing and editing. The books are set to add a further layer of meaning to her music and art, developing on some of the stories already portrayed in her lyrics.
“The songs are my interpretations of my life and life experiences, obviously in quite a figurative and highly stylised way- the books are taking that one step further with a whole world to accompany. The songs and the story can both be consumed independently of each other, but having both is going to help create a richer experience for the *fans*.”
