There’s an AI bot wreaking havoc on the internet right now roasting people’s Spotify music and you really have to brave its mockery.

It was only a few weeks ago that everyone’s Spotify Wrapped for 2020 were being eagerly compared online. Honestly, it got a bit much. Cousin Paul’s favourite artist of the year was Billie Eilish? Cool. Your aunt was in the top 0.5% of Taylor Swift listeners? Congrats.

Now a sneaky and snide AI bot has arrived and it’s ready to REALLY tell you just how bad your Spotify is. Coming courtesy of the geniuses at The Pudding, the ‘How Bad Is Your Spotify?’ bot uses “sophisticated AI” to “judge your awful taste in music.”

The experience will be a huge comedown for any music snobs – and there’s a lot of ’em out there – who have always loudly boasted about how great their music taste is. This bot just don’t care.

Once granted access to your Spotify account, the bot goes through your listening behaviours and then discusses it with acerbic wit and searing honesty.

The bot will cheekily ask if you were listening to certain songs ironically (his questioning of my listening to Mac DeMarco’s ‘Ode to Viceroy’ really hit hard). It’ll also make you play an unexpected game of ‘Fuck, Marry, Kill’ with three of your most cherished artists. The bot has no mercy.

At the end, you’ll be given your basic percentage to compare with friends and family and the bot will summarise your music taste in hyper-specific and devastating detail: for this writer, ‘Your spotify was instagram-your-tent-at-sunset-craft-beer-snob-cabincore bad’ really made me feel like a cheap man’s Bon Iver.

Don’t be frightened though, for it’s really just a lot of harmless fun (if you can deal with being called 21% basic that is). Follow the link here and simply log into your Spotify account and let the chaos commence!
