It’s undeniable that The Kid LAROI is one of the Australia’s hottest recent exports. The 17 year old has released music with both Justin Bieber and Juice WRLD, has featured on the Billboard Hot 100, has over a billion streams globally and has received praise from both Drake and Elton John.

Justin Bieber’s new album Justice features LAROI on his sixth song, ‘Unstable’. LAROI spoke to about having the opportunity to work with one of the world’s biggest pop stars and reveals that it was Bieber that actually got in contact with him.

“That’s my boy,” The Kid Laroi says about Justin Bieber. “That’s somebody I’ve looked up to since I can remember, so it’s just super crazy when he reached out,” he says. “The past month and a bit we’ve been getting to know each other . I’m blessed to be able to call him my friend.”

In January, Elton John told Laroi he is “gonna be one of the biggest artists in the whole wide world” on an episode of his Apple Music radio show, Rocket Hour. LAROI told that he went straight to his grandparents to share the exciting news.

“It’s crazy the first thing I did when I spoke to him [Elton John] is I called my grandparents because my grandparents are in love with Elton John. So, I called them and they were freaking out. With grandparents sometimes you tell them something [about who you are collaborating with] and they have no idea who they are,” he says. “But if you tell them Elton John they’re like ‘oh fuck, that’s cool’”.

At just 17 years old, LAROI’s success is meteoric and he credits his mum for inspiring him to be so career driven at such a young age.

“Me and my mum have been super close even since I was a kid, she’s my best friend,” he said.  “She always told me anything you want to do you can do it, fuck everybody, it sounds cliché but it was motivation”
