Taylor Swift took everyone by surprise earlier this evening by announcing the arrival of her ninth album, Evermore, out later today.
Are we lucky or what? Earlier this year, Taylor Swift surprised us with Folklore, which became one of the most acclaimed albums of the year (just ask those year-end lists!) And she’s done it again!
The singer-songwriter announced earlier today that her ninth studio album — also a companion album to Folklore — Evermore, will be out later today.
Taking to Instagram to introduce Evermore to the world, Taylor Swift said: “I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and Folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. It’s called Evermore.”
Speaking about the making of Evermore, Swift describes it as a conscious artistic decision to dive deeper into the ethos that was birthed by Folklore.
“To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.” she wrote.
Swift also described the excitement she feels about continuing the magic of an album for the first time in her career: “I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with Folklore.”
“In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning. I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them.”
The album comes just days ahead of Taylor Swift’s 31st birthday, which she alludes to in another post giving out album details. The standard edition of Evermore comes with 15 tracks, while the deluxe one contains two more: ‘Right Where You Left Me’ and ‘It’s Time To Go’.
Digital downloads of the album will include an exclusive, digital booklet with 16 brand new photos.
