It’s been over a decade since the emo pop revolution of the mid-2000s with Fall Out Boy leading the charge. But how well do you know the boys from Illinois?

Fall Out Boy was formed back in 2001 by Pete Wentz and Joe Trohman who had become friends in the hardcore punk scene in Chicago. Together with Patrick Stump, who was friends with Joe, they started Fall Out Boy as pop punk project. Over the years the band had a few different band members until eventually settling with Andy Hurley as drummer.

In May 2003, Take This To Your Grave was released and gave way to an influx of fans, eventually leading them to mainstream success.  Their second album, From Under The Cork Tree debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 chart upon its release in 2005.

‘Sugar, We’re Going Down’ was a driving force of the success with it moving over from alternative to mainstream radio. In particular it had become popular with young teenage fanbase.

Fall Out Boy were a fundamental part of the rise of emo pop, a sub-genre of pop-punk. Emo pop started in the ’90s, it had a resurgence in the mid-2000s with bands such as Paramore and Panic! At The Disco. In more recent times, these bands have moved away from this genre but fans stay as dedicated as ever.

Alternative rock, punk rock and hip hop are just some of the influences of Fall Out Boy. Each albums sound evolves and becomes more experimental.

Their most experimental album yet Mania was released in 2018 which took a more electro pop sound. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart making it their fourth number one. The release was followed by an international tour with Jaden Smith, blackbear and WAXX as openers.
