Nearly nine years after announcing the third instalment of his Umbrella Academy comic book series, ex-My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way has finally released Hotel Oblivion. Way shared his excitement about the release in a series of Instagram posts.

The comic which was officially announced back in 2009at San Diego Comic Com was surprise released by Dark Horse Comics and Way. On the release, the artist said “I’m having a hard time containing my excitement over the fact that something named “oblivion” is actually the start of so many new things!
Tomorrow signals the official return of The Umbrella Academy with Hotel Oblivion #1. It’s a story about time and age and mistakes and redemption.”

It was announced earlier this year that Netflix was creating a series based off the comics. The Mary J. Blige starring 10-part series is set to premiere before the end of the year. Other stars in the show include Ellen Page, and Tom Hopper.

Since his debut solo album Hesitant Alien was released in 2014 just a year after My Chemical Romance broke up, Way hasn’t released any new music. Rumours of a My Chemical Romance reunion have been swirling since the 10th anniversary of Welcome To The Black Parade. However in an interview after the group were spotted together in 2017 Way said the group hadn’t discussed the possibility of a reunion.
