If we had a dollar for every time an artist hinted at new music in words resembling a hard to decipher code, we’d probably be topping Kanye West on the Forbe’s Billionaires List. In a typically ~creative~ style, Lorde has teased us with some news that we *think* is promising a new album, soon (?).

The usually quiet singer has shared some updates in an interview with Blackbird Spylane, “I’m telling people that something is taking shape. More than ‘taking shape’ — something is — there’s a thing,” she admitted.

“But, you know, I really take my time, and I like to know the whole universe, the whole cinematic universe for what I’m making, so I’m in that process right now.”

“I don’t know how much more I want to say. It’s such a kooky year in terms of knowing anything about timing, but I guess with me, as an artist generally, no one ever knows when anything’s coming anyway…” she added.

While we’re not 100% certain about what the ‘thing’ and ‘cinematic universe’ she’s referring to is exactly, we have a funny feeling Lorde is referencing new music or a new album. Maybe.

After her EP Royals soared to No.1 on the Billboard charts in 2013, Lorde became a household name, and following this she released a string of successful hits. However, it’s been radio silence from Lorde for a while now, as she hasn’t released anything in three years – making this hint at new music BIG NEWS.

Unlike her peers in the industry, Lorde (whose real name is Ella Yelich-O-Connor) tends to stay away from the limelight by doing minimal interviews and even distancing herself from social media since 2018. Though she has 6.7 million followers on the gram, her current grid boasts just three posts.

She explained her decision about stepping back from social media to Interview magazine last month. “Part of what made me peace out on social media, apart from feeling like I was losing my free will, was the massive amounts of stress I was feeling about our planet, about systemic racism, and about police brutality in this country,” she said.
