Ashley Frangipane, otherwise known as Halsey, has been dominating the charts since 2014. Following the release of her debut EP Room 93, she projected into stardom, with ‘Ghost,’ her debut single, being a massive success. She gained a lot of popularity through Tumblr and Twitter where fans connected with her innovative aesthetics and personal lyrics.

A lot of the singer-songwriter’s music and videos have a punk or grungy style while maintaining an element of pop. ‘Badlands‘ and ‘Hopeless Fountain Kingdom‘ are considered concept albums and have been praised for their creativity and ambition.

Her most recent release, Manic, is her most personal and raw album yet that explores a range of genres and styles. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and currently has over 2 million sales worldwide.

Halsey has collaborated with a number of artists including Justin Bieber on ‘The Feeling’ and BTS on ‘Boy With Luv‘. She received a grammy nomination for her collaboration with The Chainsmokers in 2017. She has also won a number of Teen Choice, Video Music and American Music Awards.

She takes influence from artists such as Alanis Morissette, 2Pac, Panic! at the Disco and Lady Gaga. Cinema is also one her biggest influences, with Quentin Tarantino and Harmony Korine being two of her favourites.

Aside from her music, Halsey has been dedicated to social activism. Never shying away from the difficult topics,  Halsey often talks about mental health or political issues, having dealt with them first hand. In June 2020 Halsey announced the title of her first poetry book called I Would Leave Me If I Could which is available now!
