That’s how you really christen a debut release: Olivia Rodrigo technically has a Taylor Swift writing credit on her new album.

As per Billboard, the new superstar on the block’s album, Sour, arrives this week on Friday, May 21st. It includes a song called ‘1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back which interpolates Swift’s track ‘New Year’s Day’ from her 2017 record Reputation.

It means Swift and her mate and collaborator Jack Antonoff have been given writing credits on the song and, honestly, fair play for the craftiness Olivia Rodrigo.

An admitted Swift fan, the song’s title even slyly nods to Swift’s numerology with ‘1’ and ‘3’ forming her lucky number 13. She’s covered ‘Cruel Summer’ for MTV’s Alone Together Jam Session previously. As revealed to Rolling Stone in April, that song also inspired Rodrigo’s track ‘Deja Vu’.

And although it’s not officially a collaboration between the pair, with the way Rodrigo’s career is taking off, don’t doubt that a proper linkup will come soon enough. Rodrigo giddily posted a picture with her idol at the Brit Awards just a couple of weeks ago, after Swift received the Global Icon Award and Rodrigo performed her mammoth hit ‘Drivers License’. They also swapped handwritten letters recently.

When ‘Drivers License’ first exploded from nowhere to hit number one in charts around the world, many thought that the 18-year-old might be a one-hit wonder but she’s proven that’s definitely not the case. When its follow-up, ‘Deja Vu’, reached number 8 in the U.S. chart, she became the first artist in the history of Hot 100 to debut their first two singles inside the top 10.

Last weekend, Rodrigo took to the Saturday Night Live stage with a breathtakingly mature performance that really highlighted the power of her voice. Expect Sour to be one of the biggest-selling albums of this year.
