J.K. Rowling, best known for her iconic Harry Potter series of novels, has drawn the ire of Halsey and several other celebrities over a series of transphobic tweets she recently posted.

In a tweet to her 14.5 million followers, Rowling criticised an article called ‘’Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate,’ which explored how people needed certain materials even during lockdown.

“I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?” she said.

Halsey didn’t hold back in response, slamming the author for choosing a time in history when trans people need allies and need support, to instead “invalidate” their existence.

“Imagine writing a generation defining series about a youth uprisal that defeats a tyrannical monster motivated by the preservation of “pure blood” and looking at THIS time in the world and going ‘hmm…yep. I’m gonna invalidate trans people,” the singer-songwriter tweeted.

Rowling hit back against the criticism she received from many, doubling down and defending her right to speak the “truth”.

“If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives.”

That predictably pissed people off even more. “You’re a smart person. How do you not yet understand the difference between sex and gender? The only way I can possibly explain your ignorance at this point is willfulness. It’s incredibly disappointing,” added American musician and producer Brad Walsh.

It’s not the first time that Rowling has been caught out tweeting anti-trans bullshit.

In December of 2019 she posted; “Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?”

Halsey has also been a vocal supporter of the Black Lives Matter protests across the US and the globe recently. During a protest in LA, she was hit by a rubber bullet when police fired on a group of protesters.
