I know I’m not alone when I say I was woken up at an ungodly hour of the evening to the orchestral chimes of the group chat. The topic that incited such a flurry of back-to-back messages? Taylor Swift’s surprise new album folklore.
Us devoted Swifties know that a new album by our queen of earnestness is often accompanied with an elaborate media rollout and months upon months of teasing. We could never, in a million years, anticipated a surprise record.
“Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore,” Swift revealed.
Swift explained that the coronavirus pandemic spurred her decision to drop this collection of songs in an unorthodox way.
“Before this year, I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time,” Swift wrote. “But the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed.”
Naturally, the internet has been sent into a tizzy over the news that we’ll all have new Taylor Swift to listen to. I for one have cancelled all my plans this weekend so I’ll have the freedom to lie on my bedroom floor and sob my heart out to the new record.
Between a new Taylor Swift record, and the ten year anniversary celebrations of One Direction, I’m truly finding it so difficult to grapple with the fact it is the year 2020 and not the year 2013.
To celebrate the release of the record we’ve scoured the internet and collated our favourite reactions to this earth-shattering news.
