Our regular DBNews show gives us an opportunity to put a spotlight on emerging artists we just can’t get enough of.

Each episode, presented by audiobook service Audible, features the segment DBNew Obsession. Think of it as a ‘one to watch’ of sorts; but with a super massive DBU stamp of approval all over it.

This week’s DBNew Obsession is Cronulla artist Ruby Fields. Check out why we love her in the latest episode of DBNews below:

Ruby Fields just dropped a new single called ‘Climate’ and if you’re not familiar with Ruby Fields that’s okay… we won’t hold it against you.

She’s actually one our favourite artist discoveries from the past few years. She’s from Cronulla in NSW, she makes guitar-driven indie-rock, and she used to sneak into festivals and shows when she was 14.

Two years ago, she uploaded her first single, ‘I want’, to Unearthed and the song went nuts.

Within a few hours it had more than a thousand streams, days later it was added to high rotation on triple j and it even landed a spin on BBC radio 1… in the UK. Ruby hadn’t even played a show yet…

Within a few weeks she announced her debut show in Sydney, and played to a sold out crowd. I was there and it was packed, the room was buzzing, and she was getting started.

Now she’s sold out 3 tours, released massive singles like ‘Dinosuars’ (which nabbed the #9 spot on this year’s Hottest 100), ‘P Plates’, and ‘Ritalin’.

She’s played huge festivals like Splendour in Grass and Laneway, and her latest headline tour for May is thiiiiis close to selling out.

There’s a lot of hype around Ruby Fields, and it’s all happening really fast but listen to her songs and you’ll get it.

In fact, pre-orders for her EP Permanent Hermit are now live now so head to rubyfieldsmusic.com to grab a merch bundle.

Thanks for watching this week’s DBNew Obsession, brought to you by Audible.
