For many of us, losing 100k followers on social would seem like a huge deal, but for popstar teen Billie Eilish – who lost approximately that many after posting an explicit pic – it’s hilarious.
Eilish was taking part in the viral “post a photo of” challenge, which involves users posting photos that their followers request. When she was asked to “post a drawing she’s proud of”, as well as “her phone background”, she did – and both were pictures of topless women.
An eager-eyed Insta-sleuth noticed that Eilish’s following dropped from 73 million down to 72.9 million. Which, in the scheme of things, might seem minuscule but is a 100,000 drop in followers. The fan tweeted about it, a tweet which Eilish noticed and reposted on her Instagram story.
“LMFAOOO y’all babies smh” she posted alongside two skull emojis in reply to her fans tweet of “BYE NOT HER LOSING 100K CUZ OF BOOBS”
Eilish has been vocal about her stance against body shaming, touching on the subject in many interviews. In a campaign video for Calvin Klien the now 19-year-old shared that she uses clothes as a form of protection.
“I never want the world to know everything about me,” she says in the video. “That’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath.”
In May this year, Eilish also revisited the subject in her short film titled ‘NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY’.
“Some people hate what I wear; some people praise it; some people use it to shame others; some people use it to shame me,” she says in the video.
“Would you like me to be smaller? Weaker? Softer? Taller? Would you like me to be quiet? Do my shoulders provoke you? Does my chest? Am I my stomach? My hips? The body I was born with – is it not what you wanted? If I wear what is comfortable, I am not a woman. If I shed the layers, I’m a slut. Though you’ve never seen my body, you still judge it and judge me for it. Why?”.
