AH, Christmas! ‘Tis the best season of the year. For it is the only time of the year that watching Love Actually fourteen times in a row is not deemed a faux pas.
Here at Camp DBU we’ll take any opportunity we can to get into the Christmas spirit. The festive season and pop punk bangers go together like the winter and a sweater. If there’s one thing we love more than just band members simply existing, it’s seeing them get all dang sentimental and cute.
We’ve taken it upon ourselves to curate the Ultimate Emo Xmas Playlist, for your (and our) enjoyment:
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE – ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU
The best part about Christmas is undeniably the dulcet tones of Gerard Way crooning this seminal Mariah Carey classic. We’re coming in hot with this one at the top of our list, but stick with us- it’s going to be a very emo Christmas.
ALL TIME LOW – MERRY CHRISTMAS, KISS MY ASS
Feeling salty and bitter? Did a boy (or girl) break your heart? All Time Low has a song for that. Pop this one on and tell the person who wronged you to kiss it (bitch).
BLINK-182 – I WON’T BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
Cheers Mark Hoppus for not sugar-coating the Christmas experience. This whole song is a big mood if you find Christmas with the fam bam to be The Worst™ (or at best Barely Tolerable™).
It’s Christmas time again
It’s time to be nice to the people you can’t stand
I’m growing tired of all this Christmas cheer
You people scare me
Please stay away from my home
If you don’t wanna get beat down
Just leave the presents and then leave me alone
YELLOWCARD – CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
A timely reminder that we lost one of the good ones this year. RIP Yellowcard- gone but never ever forgotten.
REAL FRIENDS – I HAD A HEART
We considered entirely copping out and just including the entire masterpiece of Fearless Records Punk Goes Christmas. Note that it’s lack of inclusion doesn’t mean it’s not worthy. Go and listen to it. Now.
THE USED – ALONE THIS HOLIDAY
If you’re detecting a theme in these emo Christmas bangers, and that theme happens to be being deeply unhappy around Christmas time? You’re not wrong. This one is particularly heart wrenching.
HEY MONDAY – O HOLY NIGHT
What did we do to deserve an entire Christmas EP from Hey Monday? It’s especially jarring to listen to them at this time of the year and come to the crushing realisation that we’ve survived yet another revolution around the sun without the reunion we so desperately crave. Fingers crossed for 2018.
NEW FOUND GLORY – SNOW
Emo is a stretch on this one, and we can cop that. It’s hard for us to relate to this one given that Christmas down our way usually involves sunburn and swimmers, but we try to get in to the spirit.
THE MAINE – HO HO HOPEFULLY
The best emo Christmas song, don’t @ us. Halsey has our back on this.
Ho, Ho, Hopefully.

SIMPLE PLAN – CHRISTMAS EVERY DAY
Love this song- hate the sentiment. Christmas every day feels hecking exhausting and I would rather not. No thanks, Simple Plan.
PANIC AT THE DISCO – WHITE CHRISTMAS
The best emo Christmas cover. The very best. The second that the sultury ‘da doo do doo, dum dum’ from Brendon Urie hits, you already know what it IS. The only complaint on this obvious aural masterpiece is that it is literally 91 seconds which is about half an acceptable length.
VERSAEMERGE – SANTA BABY
Do you like covers of classic Christmas music, redone in a minor key that makes you feel just slightly uncomfortable? Boy oh boy do we have news for you. She’s your new favourite Christmas ballad.
FALL OUT BOY – YULE SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT
Did you really think we would get through this entire list and not include Yule Shoot Your Eye Out? M8s. Never.
THE FORMAT – HOLLY JOLLY CHRISTMAS
“Wow, that guy sounds a lot like the dude from FUN.” I hear you shout. And you’re not wrong. If this is your first introduction to The Format? You’re bloody welcome. Their original Christmas song is the perfect intro.
