Straight-up superstars BTS have announced that they are prepping for the release of their second English-language single, ‘Butter’.
The song, described in a press release (via Billboard) as “a dance pop track brimming with the smooth yet charismatic charm of BTS,” is set to premiere on Friday, May 21st.
‘Butter’ will serve as a follow-up to the BTS’ first English-language song, ‘Dynamite’, and boy has it got big shoes to fill.
Yep, ‘Dynamite’ recently hit one billion views on YouTube (just casually), a feat previously achieved by the likes of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran.
The track previously yet a YouTube record when it became the fastest music video to reach 10 million views, which it did within the first 20 minutes of its release.
On top of that, it also reached the most YouTube views within the first 24 hours of release, racking up a cool 101.1 million.
As if that wasn’t enough, it spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 last year and went on to break the record for the most weeks at number one on the Billboard Digital Song Sales Chart, spending an impressive 18 weeks there.
All in all, it’d be an understatement to say ‘Butter’ has a lot to live up to, but we already can’t wait to see what records it smashes.
BTS have already had a jam-packed year that has seen them pursue a variety of projects including a brand ambassador gig for Louis Vuitton, a commercial for Samsung and a meal collaboration with McDonald’s.
