Billie Eilish has jumped on social media to announce she has a new single on the way next week. The single, titled ‘my future’, is expected on Thursday, July 30th.
It’s summer in the northern hemisphere. Everyone should be throwing back innumerable mojitos and forgetting how to spell their names. But it’s 2020 and going outdoors means potentially spreading or catching an incredibly contagious and deathly disease. So instead, productivity is booming. Taylor Swift just surprise released a new album; Beyonce has a new visual album due any day; and Billie Eilish has also entered the mix, announcing her first single in several months.

Eilish’s debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, came out on March 29th, 2019, and given the record’s unparalleled success, the US teenager more than deserves a breather. But hanging out at home with her brother and collaborator Finneas was inevitably going to result in new music.
Eilish has already released a couple of new songs since When We All Fall Asleep. In November 2019 she gave us ‘Everything I Wanted’, which topped the US Rolling Stone Top 100. Then in February of this year – back when we thought life and plans would carry on as usual – Eilish premiered the title song from the as-yet-unreleased 007 Film No Time to Die.
The latter saw Billie and Finneas teaming up with film composer par excellence Hans Zimmer and Johnny Marr of The Smiths. Zimmer and Marr joined the siblings for a performance of ‘No Time to Die’ at this year’s BRIT Awards.
Also in 2020, Eilish became the youngest solo artist to win the Grammy award for Album of the Year. She picked up five other Grammys too, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and scored the top spot in triple j’s Hottest 100.
