Billie Eilish has spoken her truth in the latest Calvin Klein campaign, delving into the reason behind her signature baggy clothes. The brand’s latest campaign“I Speak My Truth In #MyCalvins,” which also features Shawn Mendes and Noah Centino, has explored Billie’s radical relationship with fashion.
Billie has used her campaign video to explain that she uses fashion as a form of protection. “I never want the world to know everything about me,” she says in the video. “That’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath.”
Explaining that if she wore clothing that revealed her figure, people would feel entitled to comment on the way her body looks. “Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath. Nobody can be like, ‘she’s slim-thick,’ ‘she’s not slim-thick,’ ‘she’s got a flat ass,’ ‘she’s got a fat ass.’” Watch the campaign video below.

A seventeen-year-old girl that feels compelled to hide her body to escape objectification and sexualisation is a dire reflection of our culture. The ad has triggered an open dialogue on social media about the unrelenting objectification women face every day of their life.

I love how this is a Calvin’s commercial that focuses on how she feels & doesn’t actually show the product, usually those commercials are so sexual but this is a nice change

you don’t have to like the way billie eilish dresses, but at least understand that billie feels she needs to dress in a way that ensures she can’t be sexualised or bodyshamed because people out there can’t keep their nasty, sleazy comments to themselves pic.twitter.com/befM8Dza9g

she shouldn’t have to protect herself from other people, but she does. how could you hate someone who wants the best for themselves? just because she doesn’t do what you want her to? to be normal? just let her be ? https://t.co/5Oi4V4q686

In related news, earlier this month Billie Eilish was forced to take to Instagram stories to ask fans to stop groping her during meet and greets. “Pls don’t grab my boobs in the meet & greet,” she wrote. “I try very hard to make everyone happy at the m&g, but sometimes you make it very difficult for me to feel comfortable enough to do that.” Read more about it now.
