What do you think of Townes Van Zandt?
Outlaw country, I guess if there’s a common theme amongst my favourite songs its gotta be the context of the song and the delivery in which it is sung, the way in which guitar can seem simple and the lyrics and voice shine through.
A good song only needs a guitar and a voice, I’m a sucker for what seems understated and effortless, genius hidden under the guise of simplicity.
Song writing that perhaps leads towards sorrow and sadness, substance abuse and at times is juxtaposed with hope and love. For what reason has a special spot in my heart, maybe it’s the nihilist within me, the helpless, hopeless, hopeless romantic.
Its conviction of the delivery, when he sings, he means it. Songs like Lungs, Waitin Round to Die, For the Sake of a Song, I'll be here in the morning are songs I’m often inspired by.
