100 gecs’ crossover cache grows by the day. Having dropped remixes featuring the likes of Charli XCX and Dorian Electra in recent months, the duo have now released their debut remix album, which features Fall Out Boy among many others.

100 gecs’ music is not for the faint-hearted. No, it’s not full-throttle heavy, but it is highly disorienting. 100 gecs is composed of writer/producers Dylan Brady and Laura Les, and the pair’s 2019 debut album 1000 Gecs was all about fucking with the form of contemporary pop music.

It’s been a successful enterprise, leading to kudos and collaborations with the likes of Charli XCX and PC Music head honcho A.G. Cook. The duo’s growing status as leaders in the field of deviant pop music is further affirmed by their new remix LP, 1000 Gecs and the Tree of Clues.

The record was preceded by new versions of ‘money machine’ (remixed by Cook), ‘745 sticky’ (remixed by Injury Reserve), and ‘ringtone’, which features Charli, Kero Kero Bonito, and Rico Nasty. The album also includes remixes from another PC Music artist and Charli collaborator, Danny L Harle, as well as the likes of Ricco Harver, umru, Black Dresses and 99jakes.

The juicier names can be found in the features section, however. 1000 gecs‘ penultimate track ‘hand crushed by a mallet’ is reimagined with guest appearances from Fall Out Boy, Nicole Dollanganger and Chiodos’ Craig Owens. It begins with the unmistakable sound of Patrick Stump’s voice, who puts an anthemic spin on the original’s opening verse.

The track undergoes a number of modulations before its end, and at one point sounds near identical to Fall Out Boy circa From Under the Cork Tree. This is the first new music we’ve heard from Fall Out Boy since 2019’s ‘Dear Future Self (Hands Up)’. This track was released as a single from the Greatest Hits: Believers Never Die – Volume Two compilation album.
